Our Staff

Michael Salih — Principal

Michael is the founding member of Monument Partners LLC. He has focused his professional career in the not-for-profit sector. Michael prides himself on his ability to uncover, understand, and solve his clients' unique needs. His extensive work and academic background has enabled Michael to lead a wide array of projects, which include information technology studies, process reengineering studies, internal control reviews, document digitization projects, and over fifty accounting system implementations. Michael is a Sage certified consultant for Sage MIP Fund Accounting and Sage Fundraising 50.

Michael's commitment to the community is noted by his active participation as a volunteer for many local nonprofit organizations and he sits on the Board of the Academy of Hope.

Michael received his Master of Business Administration from The American University Kogod School of Business, and his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Tennessee.

Fiona Popen — Director of Operations

Fiona is a co-founding member of Monument Partners LLC. Her professional career has focused on programming and technology implementations. Fiona's extensive skills in project managment have been a crucial component in the successful technology implementation performed by Monument Partners. Fiona's diverse professional experience from for profit companies to nonprofit organizations provides balance and ensures that Monument Partners clients receive the best of both worlds.

Fiona received her Master of Business Administration and her Bachelor of Arts in Business from Marymount University.

Lal Johnson — Sales and Marketing Associate

Lal has over 5 years of marketing and sales experience in service related industries. Her goal in working with clients is to help them discover their needs and then find efficient and easy-to-use solutions. Serving a versatile audience over the years has lead Lal to one conclusion, client satisfaction (no matter what the size or focus of the organization) is the key to running a successful business. Lal received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Jason Riggs — Project Manager

Jason has extensive experience handling Information Technology related issues and has extensive experience in the nonprofit sector. He specializes in conducting independent needs assessments to enhance the overall efficiency of his clients. Jason’s strong information technology background and real world experience provides a comprehensive approach to solving challenges faced by his clients. Jason is a Sage certified consultant for Sage MIP Fund Accounting and Sage Fundraising 50. Jason received his Bachelor of Arts in Physics from St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Brian McKenzie— Technology Manager

Brian has considerable experience in the not-for-profit and corporate sectors. He specializes in network adminsitration and is the lead on system integration testing.  Brian's strong information technology background and excellant customer service has lead to his role as the primary technical lead for Monument Partners test team.

Angel Miras — Database and Development Manager

Angel has twelve years of experience in the IT field. His primary experience has focused in software design, software development, software testing, business logic, object modeling and networking knowledge. Angel has participated in numerous IT projects both within the United States and in South America, which has included Government agencies, Not- for-Profit Organizations and Commercial Organizations. Angel has developed strong project managements skills over the course of his professional career. Angel utilizes state of the art technology in designing and developing a variety of applications for the public and private sector. The main development tools employed by Angel in his development work include ActiveX, MTS, SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Visual Studio, DCOM, Java, VB scripting, ASP, ASP.NET and Visual Basic.NET. Angel received his degree in Systems Engineer from UADE (Argentina).

Jeff Griffith, CPA

Not-for-Profit Industry Practice

Jeff Griffith is the lead audit partner for Toal-Griffith and Aryes L.L.C., based in Annapolis Maryland. Jeff is the lead partner in charge of the firm's not-for-profit practice. He has worked with a wide array of companies ranging in size from $500,000 to $125 million in annual revenues. Jeff's experience includes performing audits and reviews, cost allocation studies, operational audits and other consultation regarding accounting standards, which specifically relate to not-for-profit organizations. In addition to being an audit partner, Jeff has participated in the design and delivery of many training programs for public accounting firms. Jeff is a 1993 graduate of the University of Richmond where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

Jeff is currently a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.

John Kosmela — Network Manager

John has over twelve years technical experience working in a mixture of computer environments that include Microsoft and Novell. His experiences include network support, implementation, and management that includes various mail messaging systems. Other responsibilities include network analysis and design, development of in-house applications and upgrading computer hardware and software.

John has addressed and resolved issues for many companies as a consultant to not-for-profit organizations and law firms. The normal scenarios involve networks that have been mismanaged by previous Administrators which have negatively impacted the organizations daily operations. His certifications are numerous within the Cisco, Novell and Microsoft fields such as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer plus Internet (MCSE+I).

John combines his certified expertise with real world experience to cost effectively and technically bring his clients peace of mind when the network is turned back over for their own management. John has a degree in Computer Science and is currently working on his Masters degree in Information Technology at the University of Maryland.
